The 3M diamond polyimide wheel 664PL is used in the production and sharpening of carbide cutting tools. This general purpose wheel is designed to give you the best balance of form retention and the free-cut rate when used with water based lubricants.

• Polyimide bonded diamond wheels are designed for high performance grinding on carbide. The 3M diamond polyimide wheel 664PL line is specifically designed for the production and re-sharpening of cutting tools, including end work, gashing and cutting primary and secondary relief edges. Primary relief involves removing material directly behind the cutting edge to enhance chip clearance. For secondary relief, a slight bevel is ground next to the primary relief. End work grinds a small relief angle on the tip of the tool, while gashing adds a slot along the cutting face to allow for chip flow. Each of these processes require the highest level of quality that the 3M diamond polyimide Wheel 664PL provides.

• This superabrasive wheel also uses a high temperature polyimide bond specially designed to resist the thermal and chemical deterioration experienced with phenolic bonds when used under the same grinding conditions. The R-rated bond hardness excels at delivering good form retention and long wheel life which is ideal performing end work, gashing or relief grinding on tungsten carbide. This bonding material can be used with water or oil based coolant for greater flexibility.

• 3M provides a broad portfolio of superabrasive wheels used for your round tool relief and clearance angle applications. They feature a variety of metal cores, including aluminum, steel, composite and copper, and can be cut with custom arbor holes to fit customer specifications.
