This fast- and free-cutting wheel is available in diamond grades of 100 and 220 and should be run with a water based coolant. The use of coolant is critical for it removes heat away from the workpiece and wheel, adds lubricity reducing grinding friction and helps to clear away swarf.

• Cut-off wheels are thin abrasive wheels typically used on the cutting end of the tool when re-grinding and on the shank end when forming a blank. The abrasive surface of the 3M cut-off wheel 654BJ is the periphery, where it is coated with diamond to a depth of 6.35mm. This wheel generally cuts radially through the workpiece.
