Product Information
7250 psi max Single and Double Acting Hollow Cylinders have a hole through the center of their plunger to accept a stud or drawbar. The version shown here has a plunger extension underneath to prevent drawing in chips and coolant when the cylinder is used in inverted position. Useful for transmitting force to a remote location using a drawbar. Hollow Cylinders can be used for pulling or for pushing. The plunger's center hole is threaded at the top end with counterbored relief below. These threads can optionally be drilled out to the counterbore diameter if an unthreaded center hole is required. A threaded center hole is ideal for pulling or pushing a drawbar. An unthreaded center hole is useful if the clamp is removed for workpiece loading. Hollow Cylinders are available in six sizes, single acting and double acting. The smallest three sizes, with an integral flange, are shown here. Clamping force at 7250 psi: 2300 Lbs M6 stud 7000 Lbs M10 stud 11000 Lbs M12 stud
Clamping Action
Applying fluid pressure advances the plunger, pulling up a stud or drawbar inserted through the center hole. Spring return (single acting) or fluid return (double acting).
Design Considerations
Hollow Cylinders exert considerable force, so always use a grade 8 stud or equivalent drawbar at 5000 psi and above.
Mounting & Fluid Supply
Mounting on a Clamp Strap: Use either a threaded-hole or unthreaded-hole clamp. Mount on the clamp strap's center stud (longer stud usually required). Use a Spherical Washer underneath the clamp to compensate for clamp-strap angle. When using a threaded-hole clamp, install with a flexible hose because the clamp body will move slightly during clamping. Mounting on a Fixture Plate: Insert four socket-head cap screws through the flange base from above and screw into fixture (flange base must be ordered separately for M16, M20, and M24 sizes – fasten to clamp with four additional socket-head cap screws). Alternatively, insert cap screws up through the fixture plate and screw into the clamp from below. Mounting through a Bored Hole: Insert four socket-head cap screws through the flange base from below and screw into fixture. Alternatively, fasten with optional lock nut (two required for M16, M20, and M24 sizes).Fluid Connection:1/4" BSPP port (two for double-acting clamps). Do not use NPT fittings.
