Different densities signal varying levels of flexibility of the holder pad. Soft-density holder pads are more pliable and responsive, so they're a good fit for finer-grade abrasives performing finishing and contouring. This medium-grade pad is good for discs that do general-purpose work. Firm-density holder pads are more rigid to support coarser abrasives that perform heavy stock removal. Discs and holder pads work together to get the job done.
