3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive 2290 is a solvent-based, low viscosity amber tinted thermosetting epoxy adhesive requiring heat cure. It is designed for metal to metal coating and subsequent bonding: for example, in motor lamination and wire winding.
Offers Exceptionally High Shear and Peel Strength3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive 2290 is designed to coat and bond metal substrates, including steel and aluminum. This epoxy is a low (21% solids) formulation with very low viscosity. 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive 2290 can be applied in a variety of methods including: brushing, flow coating, dip coating, roll coating, knife coating and spraying. It is ideal for assembling metal laminations and various applications on metal cores, rotors and motors and wire windings. B-staging coated and dried parts are optional; allowing final cure up to 3 months later.
Recommended Applications- Assemble laminated steel cores for electrical motor stators and rotors
- Adhere copper foil to B-staged epoxy in the manufacture of printed circuits
- Coat, protect and utilize coils and electronic subassemblies
- Thin metal stack laminations such as those used in magnetic tape heads
Epoxy adhesives are part of the class of adhesives called "structural adhesives," which include polyurethane, acrylic, cyanoacrylate and others. One-part heat cured epoxies are rigid adhesives that have outstanding strength when measured at elevated temperatures. These adhesives require a thermal cure, typically around 250°;-350°F (120°;-180°C) for 40-60 minutes, to achieve full strength. They provide high shear and peel strengths, depending on the formula and better heat and chemical resistance than other common adhesives.
Epoxy adhesive (often referred to as epoxy glue) is widely used in building and home construction; aircraft and automobile manufacturing; bicycle, boat, golf clubs, ski and snowboard assembly as well as a host of home use and other applications. It is used virtually anywhere high-strength bonds are needed along with resistance to environmental conditions. These adhesives are popular for their ease of use, mechanical strength and chemical resistance. Formulations can be created to make epoxy for plastic flexible or epoxy for metal rigid, epoxy resin transparent or opaque, quick setting or slow setting. The versatility with which these adhesives can be formulated helps meet almost any requirement for bonding wood, metal, glass, stone and various plastics.
