Choosing between Kurt's "classic" DX6 vise and the new, updated DX6 vise

Posted by All Industrial Tool Supply on Aug 23, 2021

In Summer 2021, Kurt Manufacturing updated their popular DX6 vise with a new design and visual facelift. All Industrial has stock of the new DX6 now, but has also secured a limited amount of inventory of the "classic" DX6 that predates the re-design. While supplies last, we'll be selling both models, so you can choose your favorite.

Both versions have their merits - so how should you choose between them? To begin, let's take a look at the two models, side-by-side:

After close inspection, we can see a few changes at a glance:

  • updated graphic design and refreshed Kurt logo.
  • the new version has an integral casting of the stationary jaw, to further reduce deflection and increase stability during clamping; while the Revision "A" or "Classic" model uses a bolt-together assembly.
  • The cast stationary design also provides some other improvements, for example, “blowing back” of chips and/or coolant onto the machine operator is reduced.
  • The updated DX6 also has a re-designed, lighter weight nut, and a new brush seal design.
  • The new model uses a larger, stronger, and more durable bearing pack.

Who should choose the "classic" DX6?

Some buyers may prefer the "classic" DX6, including:

  • users who may already have other "classic" DX6 vises in your shop. In this circumstance, it might be advantageous to have each vise look and feel identical for consistency.

Who should choose the "modern", re-designed DX6?

The re-designed version of the DX6 will appeal to you if:

  • you prefer to have the "latest and greatest".
  • You've previously used other Kurt vises that share the refreshed features, like Kurt's 3600V series.
  • You're concerned about chips or coolant blowing back onto the machine operator. The modern, Revision "B" DX6 reduces such blowback.

Both Kurt DX6 models are available now

As of this writing, both the "classic" and "refreshed" DX6 vises are in stock now for immediate shipment from All Industrial. If you have questions about choosing the right machine vise for your shop needs, please call, email, or chat anytime.
