Quality and Consistency are Provided by Collets

Mar 01, 2014

It is important for every successful shop to have quality consistency. Quality consistency of products is not a result of one aspect of the company but instead covers all aspects, both internal and external, of the company.

More recently, companies have discovered the use of a quality collet for quality consistency in production. Collets can be especially beneficial for shops that produce custom parts that primarily require high accuracy. A company in particular, Swiss Automation, mentioned the use of Rego-Fix collets and stated that they are reliable and rarely cause any problems in production.

Quality consistency and accuracy are especially imperative to a company like Swiss Automation that provides to industries that require high accuracy parts. Using collets help to give this company the ability to produce advanced parts and remain current in its production. In addition, this company sometimes executes micro-drilling which is a complex process made easier by the use of Rego-Fix collets.

The Rego-Fix collet is not only beneficial for quality consistency and accuracy. An advantage of using this type of collet is its vast availability. Swiss Automation has mentioned that they have never had a problem locating and receiving this brand of collet, nor have they had an issue with a sluggish shipment.

When deciding which type of collet a company will use most, it generally comes down to personal preference. Swiss Automation mentioned their previous use of Rego-Fix sealing discs but did change over to metallic collets a few years back. They have mentioned that the switch to this type of collet has helped them develop more consistency and accuracy in their production.

Post change over, Swiss Automation now prefers the use of metallic collets for a few reasons. The company’s spokesperson has stated that the metallic collets do not require as much maintenance as the sealing collets. This is beneficial to the company in that it can help them to save time and money. Metallic collets also do not require as many parts, which is less that the machinist and company have to keep an eye on. One drawback of this, however, is since the metallic collet is only one piece; it cannot produce a complete collet range.

Though, Swiss Automation does prefer metallic collets, it does note that there are still advantages of using their first preferred sealing discks. Sealing disks can provide a wider clamping range and do not require the use of special collets. In addition, sealing disks are more cleanly than metallic collets because of the structure of the disks and the location of disks on the machine.

Ultimately, no matter the type of Rego-Fix collet used, Swiss Automation has noted that these products have increased their quality consistency and precision.
