Understanding mounting types on quick change abrasive discs

Posted by All Industrial Tool Supply on Nov 16, 2021

Abrasive discs can be used on a variety of tools like angle grinders, bench sanders, and orbital sanders. Although the tool and the abrasive disc can often interchange, regardless of brand, there are several popular mounting standards and naming conventions to be aware of.

When shopping for a new tool or abrasive discs, check carefully to ensure the mounting type used on the tool will match the mounting type on the disc itself:

Quick Change TS System

The Quick Change TS System uses a metal-to-metal system, in which the disc has a female screw type button, and the holder has a male socket. These are commonly called "SocAtt", "Type II", "Type S", "Turn-On", "TS", "Speedlok TS", or "Roloc TS/TSM".

Quick Change TR System

In the Quick Change TR System, a nylon threaded (screw type) male hub mates to a metal female socket on the holder. This is also known as "Lockit", "Type III", "Type R", "Roll-on", "TR", "Speedlok TR", or "Roloc TR". The popular Surf-Pro brand offered by All Industrial refers to their implementation of the Quick Change TR system as "Roll-On".

Quick Change TP System

Finally, the 3rd type is the Quick Change TP System. This style uses a snap-on / snap-off fastening hub and holder. Depending on brand, it may be referred to as "ClickOn", "Type I", "Type TP", "Snap-On", "TP", "Speedlok TP", or "Roloc TP" - all of which describe the same interchangeable TP standard.

Despite the confusing naming, if you select both a tool and an abrasive disc from the same "family", you can shop confidently, knowing they'll work correctly together. Get in touch with All Industrial Tool Supply if you need assistance.
